We will answer these questions through careful text study and deconstruction techniques that will bring us back to the book of Genesis.

The first part of the book of Exodus immediately raises questions of identity, suffering and the struggle for meaning. The Israelites quickly become slaves in Egypt and Moses, his unusual birth and upbringing, make him the prime candidate for a job he never wants. This eleven (11) part lecture series examines the text and the questions of identity and spirituality raised by the material. You will also learn the rabbinic material that highlights women as the key to it all.

This course explores the texts that tell us of Joseph and Jacob, his father, his brothers, his kidnapping, slavery and ultimate rise to rule Egypt. Second to Pharaoh, Joseph becomes a leader of excellence but is he lost to covenant? We will explore tough questions of parenting, sibling rivalry and Judaism as it begins to function within a foreign culture. All throughout, we read texts from the Torah, Talmud and Midrash that share dreams, interpretations and symbols timeless to every person who has ever had a dream.

The exodus from Egypt ended slavery but introduced a new set of problems. Now that the Israelites are headed for Sinai, food, shelter and protection become central issues. This ten part series explores these texts that help us identify Jewish questions of identity, evil and testing God. Whether it’s Manna from heaven or Miriam’s Well, the road to Sinai involves twists and turns filled with Torah moments of insight and female imagery.
